History

Youlden Parkville carries with it a proud and interesting history. As YPCC, the Club has existed since 1972, but Youlden's history extends far beyond this. The Club started as Youlden Kensington in the season of 1922/23, largely due to the efforts of a man named Harry Youlden. Mr. H. Youlden, was a wealthy bookmaker who operated in the Kensington area dealing mostly with the poorer working classes. It operated in its first year with both a mens team and a ladies team.

Originally, the Club played in the local area but came to Ryder Oval in Parkville, just after the war, circa 1945. As Youlden Kensington, it existed until 1972 when there was a merger with Parkville Cricket Club who played on the adjacent McAlister Oval. The teams first competed in the North Suburban Cricket Association, but later moved to compete in the Victorian Junior Cricket Association, now known as the Victorian Turf Cricket Association.

In the early 1990s, the Melbourne City Council recognised the Club's contribution to amateur sport and the local community by allocating substantial funds towards new clubrooms. The architecturally designed facilities now allow us to accommodate players and supporters in comfort and style. The glass and steel construction features a great social area with bar that overlooks the Ryder Oval.

YPCC has enjoyed premiership success along the way. The 3rd XI won in 1991/92. Season 2001/02 saw the 2nd XI win the premiership, starting a roll of success. In 2002/03, the 2nds went back-to-back and the 1st XI also won the premiership.  The latter win was the first flag for our highest eleven.  In the same season, the Club also won the inaugural VTCA Knockout Cup, a one day competition involving all clubs in the VTCA in a knockout format.

Since then, YPCC has continued to play good cricket whilst fielding four teams in the VTCA senior and MCA competitions. It introduced a junior development program in 2007/08 and fielded its first competition under 12s team in 2010/11.

YPCC is a place with a proud history, great spirit and a bright future.
