YPCC’s junior program provides opportunities for boys and girls of all skills and abilities to enjoy cricket, make friends and be part of an inclusive community.
Our program is based on the following principles:
The handbook tells you everything you need to know about Junior Cricket at YPCC
If you would like to register for any of our programs or have any questions contact the Junior Coordinator, at email@example.com.
We believe that being involved in community provide many benefits for young people and their families. Being part of a cricket team helps children learn new physical skills and gets them active and fit. This has lifelong health and confidence benefits.
Being part of a supportive team contributes to a child's personal identity, resilience and sense of connection to a broader community who love cricket, Royal Park and Youlden Parkville CC. We see children grow into fine young men and women as they move through our program.
We support our young players at each stage with great coaches. Former West Indian Test cricketer Kenroy Peters, our junior coaching coordinator, has worked all around the work delivering cricket programs and coaching for players of all ages, sexes and abilities.
Kenroy leads a team of coaches who offer support for players in the areas of skill development, learning "game sense", physical preparation - and having fun.
For younger cricket players we will be conducting a Junior Blasters program for boys and girls aged 5 to 8 years old from November to March with a break for school holidays. Sessions are held at 9am Saturday mornings at Ryder Oval.
In 2020/21 YPCC will field under 10, 12, 14 and 16 teams. Boys and girls are welcome. We will also field U12, U14 and U16 girls only teams.
Under 10s play on Friday nights. All other teams play on Saturday mornings or Friday nights. Except for the girls teams where the U14 play on Monday nights. and the U12 and U16 play on Wednesday nights. Training is on Wednesday evenings for all juniors not playing on Wednesday and Mondays for those playing on Wednesdays.
Friday night cricket was new for under 14s in 2016-17. For the 2020-21 season we will field 2 Friday night U12 teams, 2 Friday night U14 teams and an under 16 team on Friday.
