It’s with great pleasure that I can announce that YPCC’s new coach and professional player is Waddington (Waddy) Mwayenga, a pace bowler and hard hitting middle order batsman, who recently represented Zimbabwe in both international test and one day matches. Waddy dismissed S. C. Ganguly in his Test Match debut in 2005, and took the wicket of young player called R. T. Ponting in a one day match versus Australia in 2004. We are currently working through the visa process and are hoping Waddy will be in Australia in September. We are also looking for accommodation for Waddy and his wife for the duration of the cricket season – so if you can help please give me a call. We are very proud that Steven Carroll, legendary YPCC paceman and firebrand in years gone by, has won Australia’s biggest and most prestigious book prize - the Miles Franklin Literary Award http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2008/06/19/2280261.htm?section=entertainment. Steve will be guest speaker at the YPCC Annual General Meeting, at the Pumphouse Hotel, 128 Nicholson St Fitzroy. The AGM is on 16 July and starts at 7pm, drinks and meals available at the bar. We will field a new Fourth XI this season in a Saturday one-day competition. This is a great chance for those of you who can’t make a commitment to playing all season but would like to play a few games. This team is going to be a great way of aging legends (in their own lunchboxes) involved with club and will be a good training ground for developing the young players we’re hoping to recruit from local secondary schools.
