| BIG NEWS AT YPCC | updated June 23, 2008 | Comrades, players and friends of Youlden Parkville Cricket Club, BIG NEWS AT YPCC - New Coach and Pro Player at YPCC with international Test and One Day Match experience - Hear YPCC legend and winner of biggest Aussie book prize at the Annual General Meeting Wednesday 16 July 2008 - New Fourth XI teams needs a captain and players - Juniors will grow in 2008-09 NEW COACH AND PROFESSIONAL PLAYER It’s with great pleasure that I can announce that YPCC’s new coach and professional player is Waddington (Waddy) Mwayenga, a pace bowler and hard hitting middle order batsman, who recently represented Zimbabwe in both international test and one day matches. Waddy dismissed S. C. Ganguly in his Test Match debut in 2005, and took the wicket of young player called R. T. Ponting in a one day match versus Australia in 2004. You can find out more about Waddy at http://content-aus.cricinfocom/zimbabwe/content/player/55640.html. We are currently working through the visa process and are hoping Waddy will be in Australia in September. We are also looking for accommodation for Waddy and his wife for the duration of the cricket season – so if you can help please give me a call. And we still need new players – if you know of anyone interested in playing at YPCC in 2008-09 contact me NOW. HEAR HOW YPCC HELPED STEVE CARROLL WIN AUSTRALIA’S BIGGEST BOOK PRIZE We are very proud that Steven Carroll, legendary YPCC paceman and firebrand in years gone by, has won Australia’s biggest and most prestigious book prize - the Miles Franklin Literary Award http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2008/06/19/2280261.htm?section=entertainment. Steve will be guest speaker at the YPCC Annual General Meeting, at the Pumphouse Hotel, 128 Nicholson St Fitzroy. The AGM is on 16 July and starts at 7pm, drinks and meals available at the bar. Come and hear Steve, and more about the clubs plans for the new season. We need new men and women to be part of our Club Committee, and get involved in getting ideas together for social events, sponsorship opportunities and developing our junior program. If you want to know more about how you can be involved, have a look at the attached information about what’s involved. You don’t have to be on the Club Committee, but you can still help out by being involved in one of the sub committees Give me a call or drop an email asap if you can help out. Check out the Position Descriptions and Terms of Reference for Subcommittees on the LHS Menus NEW FOURTH XI NEEDS A CAPTAIN AND PLAYERS We will field a new Fourth XI this season in a Saturday one-day competition. This is a great chance for those of you who can’t make a commitment to playing all season but would like to play a few games. This team is going to be a great way of aging legends (in their own lunchboxes) involved with club and will be a good training ground for developing the young players we’re hoping to recruit from local secondary schools. If you are interested in playing, or want to volunteer for being the team’s captain in this new one day competition, please give me a call or drop me an email. YPCC JUNIORS WILL GROW IN 2008-09 The clubs junior cricket program was a great success last season, with over 50 local boys and girls aged from 5 to 10 participating in our Have-a-Go program. We fielded a team of these boys and girls on the MCG during the Boxing Day Test - a fantastic experience for kids and parents alike. We will run the Have-a-Go program again in 2008/09 and add a Have-a-Game program. We are working hard to make our club a safe and enjoyable place for kids to grow up, get active and make new friends. Our hope is that these kids will one day be wearing our blue and gold caps in a senior team. We also need mums and dads to help us. If you have ideas to improve what we do, would like to be involved in making the programs a success or undertake a coaching accreditation course then please call me. Look forward to seeing you at the AGM on 16 July. Cheers Paul Sinclair President, Youlden Parkville Cricket Club | |
